ANNOUNCEMENT: ICMC Annual Conference Postponed - A Precaution Against COVID-19 (click for details)
March 10, 2020 – The International Crisis Management Conference (ICMC) is announcing today the postponement of its annual conference (May 12-14, 2020).
The postponement is a precautionary measure against the spread of COVID-19, also known as the Coronavirus.
As reported on March 3 by the US Centers for Disease Contol and Prevention: “The potential public health threat posed by COVID-19 is very high, to the United States and globally…It’s likely that at some point, widespread transmission of COVID-19 in the United States will occur.”
As preparedness professionals, you are all undoubtedly analyzing potential impacts on your own organization and working on response plans. In addition to the CDC information referenced above here are two other useful resources from the World Health Organization and the Harvard Business Review.
ICMC has rescheduled the conference for October 27-29, 2020. The agenda will remain the same, and early-bird pricing will once again become available.
In the meantime, we will continue providing online materials relating to the Coronavirus and other types of emergencies.
Good luck in your planning for your organizations’ response to this rapidly moving health emergency.
We hope to see you in Newport in October!

What is the ICMC
The International Crisis Management Conference (ICMC) was created to help support the demand for regionalized education and training for preparedness professionals. The demand for a variety of preparedness skills and a thirst for knowledge with respect to scenario-based training and exercises is at an all-time high. ICMC provides a range of professional speakers that deliver current and interesting topics that are often themed (scenario) based. ICMC welcomes you to its growing family of preparedness professionals and hopes that you will join us for one of our conferences soon.
The International Crisis Management Conference held in Rhode Island was everything I had imagined and more. I was fortunate enough to be able to not only listen to many Subject Matter Experts in the field of Incident and Crisis Management, but share my observations when it comes to collaborating within the business environment and getting other departments involved in producing an efficient and effective plan that eliminates excess time. The dialogue and scenario based training between the participants and educators is one that I will recommend to any professional in the incident/crisis management field. Rob and his team are very helpful in explaining the ‘Why’ when it comes to his training and produce real world examples. I am a better manager because of the course and the discussions that took place.
Who Should Attend?
During an emergency, large or small, your organization and those internal partners as well as external stakeholders from the surrounding community will have to work together in order to respond to a crisis. If your organization and its partners are prepared, the damage to the operation of the business should be minimal, the impact to the reputation of the brand reduced, and less chaos to the surrounding community and its residents. ICMC brings together a good mix of crisis, emergency, business continuity and security professionals from both the private and public sectors. Our attendees learn from each other and share their own experience which ultimately creates stronger relationships within the wider preparedness community. At an ICMC conference you’ll get the opportunity to meet and form relationships with:
- Crisis and Incident Management Professionals
- Business Continuity Management Professionals
- Crisis Communications and Public Relations Professionals
- Cyber-Security Professionals
- IT Disaster Recovery Professionals
- Emergency Management Professionals
- First Responders – Fire, Police and Emergency Medical Services
- Security Management Professionals
- Risk Management Professionals
- As well as many more industry experts

I was surprised to see just how varied were the primary competences of the attendees at this year’s inaugural ICMC Boston, sponsored by PreparedEx. Unlike the majority of conferences in this field that approach incident response from a single focus (such as Emergency Management or Business Continuity or Risk Management…or other), this event included all of the relevant sub-fields. The speakers were uniformly riveting, and the attendees were leaders in their specific fields. An extraordinarily beneficial conference. I hope to see it extended to 2 days next year
